Ronald "Ron" Hill Obituary

Ronald "Ron" Lee Hill, 81 years old, of Burlington, Wisconsin, formerly of Harvard, Illinois, passed away peacefully, on October 22, 2024, under the gentle care of the medical staff and hospice team, at the Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington.

Ron was born February 4, 1943, to the late William "Hart" and Flora "Mae" Hill in Kansas, Illinois. In his youth, known as "Buck Shot" by his dad, he was involved in 4H, and helped his father tend to the family farm. Ron enjoyed bowling, cars, stock car races, good music, dancing, and his greatest love of all - pool.

Ron was later married to Betty Jacobson of Harvard, Illinois and became a father to his best accomplishments - Dawn and Tim.

Ron enjoyed life on the road, as an over-the-road truck driver. In later years, he became a Wal-Mart greeter and was known to many in Harvard, as "Wal-Mart Ron". His last career was working full time at a linen factory and part time at a gaming lounge. He retired at the young age of 72, due to health issues. Because of this, he moved to Burlington, Wisconsin, to be closer to his family, and became a resident of Frances Meadows - where he took on the unofficial job of replacing light bulbs, adjusting clocks for daylight saving time and flipping the daily calendar (sometimes a day too early).

Ron had a natural flair for storytelling and a grid-iron memory. A strong man, always fighting and beating each medical battle he faced (much to every provider's surprise), with positivity and hope. In his final few years he enjoyed the company of friends at Frances Meadows, monthly visits from his daughter, trying new local restaurants, playing pool and going to car shows with his close friend, Richard, and his Friday mornings with the person he was most proud of - his granddaughter, Leah.

Ron is survived by his sister: Lorie (Ron) Montanye, his children: Dawn (Bob) Onstad and Tim (Wendy) Hill, his granddaughter: Leah Busch, his nieces/nephews: Mike Parker, Marla (Don) Urban, Rick (Cassi) Stutesman, Lori Lynn Stutesman, Marcus (Melissa) Montanye, Eric (Michelle) Montanye, his great nieces and nephews: Scott (Lindsey) Parker, Kathryn (Joey) Williams, Blaine Urban, Breanne Urban, Kaitlyn Montanye, Madeline Montanye, Quinn Montanye, Regan Montanye, Everette Montanye and other extended family members.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Betty Dolittle, Virginia (Charles) Parker, Emma (Don) Stutesman, and infant sister, Linda, nephews: Quinten and Michael, and nieces: Colleen and Janelle.

A private and intimate service will be held for the family and close friends at McHenry County Memorial Park, in Woodstock, Illinois, at a later date.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and thanks to his care team - Dr. Twardy, Dr. Welka, Dr. Haider, Dr. Tran, Dr. Anderson, Dr. Mrani, and Dr. Massert.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in his name to Love Inc. Food Pantry and Meals-On-Wheels (Racine County).
