Mary A. Markiewicz of Kansasville, Wisconsin passed away at the age of 72 on February 13, 2026 with loved ones at her side.
Born September 30, 1953, she was the eldest daughter of Bill and Carol Walsh. She grew up in Kansasville and enjoyed being outdoors, where she rode horses and hunted. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic High School before studying nursing at Columbia School of Nursing in Milwaukee. Mary made a career of caring for people as a nurse.
While studying to be a nurse at Columbia Hospital, she met the love of her life, Rick Markiewicz. Excited to start their life together, they were married on February 14, 1976. Soon they were blessed with five children, Steve, Andy, Matt, Phil, and Julia. Mary enjoyed making friends in the stands of their sporting events, plays, and the county fair. She was elated to have her family expand with the additions of children-in-law Katy, Eden, Meagan, Jessica, and Dave. Mary delighted in being a grandmother to Hazel, Olivia, Theo, Violet, Ada, Henry, and baby Oliver. Her ease in connecting with the people around her continued with gathering a circle as a grandma, making friends with a new generation of young moms while she babysat grandchildren. When not caring for others, Mary was a voracious reader and loved trying to get orioles and hummingbirds to her feeders. She was intrigued by the idea of a garden.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Rose and her nephew Nik. She is survived by her brothers and sisters Joe (Anne) Walsh, Jean (Dana) Peterson, Marge Baird, Mike Walsh, Pat Fitzpatrick, Sue Gunderson, Sean (Mary Kay) Walsh, Kate Civitano, Stephanie (Ron) Hartig, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Her family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Lombardi Cancer Treatment Center, the 12th floor of St. Luke’s, and Zilber Hospice.
Visitation will be at Integrity, 2789 Browns Lake Dr, Burlington, WI 53105, on May 29th from 3:00-7:00. A Funeral Mass will follow the next day at St. Charles Borromeo, 440 Kendall St, Burlington, WI 53105, at 11:00.
