Madeline (Maddy) E. Bruhn, 85, of Burlington, formerly of Milwaukee, Racine and New Port Richey, FL, passed away peacefully with her loved ones by her side on Wednesday, July 19th, 2023 at her residence at Pine Brook Pointe in Burlington.
Maddy was born on May 31st, 1938 to Ernst and Magdalen (née Heinrich) Tamm. She was born and raised in Milwaukee. Maddy was the third of six children born into a very musically gifted family. She grew up singing at home and at church. At a church Christmas program she sang “O, Holy Night” where her future husband, just a boy then, heard her and fell in love!
On September 4th, 1960, in Milwaukee, Maddy married that boy, the love of her life, Heinz Bruhn. Following marriage they lived in Milwaukee and then moved to Racine where they raised their family. Maddy worked outside the home at clerical and retail jobs. She worked even harder at home and in church being a loving mother and minister’s wife. She had a nurturing spirit and an endless compassion for those in need, helping whoever she could. In 1993 Maddy and Heinz achieved their dream and moved to New Port Richey, FL. They returned to Wisconsin in 2018. In her later years, Maddy enjoyed coloring in her coloring books, enjoying music performances and most of all tending to her “babies”!!! Heinz preceded her in death on January 2nd, 2022.
Maddy is survived by her children: Tammy (Carl) Laux, David (Sheri) Bruhn; grandchildren: Joshua Groth, Richard (Heather) Bruhn, Matthew (McKenna) Bruhn, Travis Laux (Jamie Shaver); great-grandchildren: Emberly and Cambria Bruhn; step-grandchildren: Julie Laux, Curtis (Katie) Laux. Also survived by her siblings: Dolores Schoolman, Sylvia (Jim) Nelson, Kathy (Paul) Downing, Bob (Jackie) Tamm, Ernie (Joyce) Tamm; sister-in-law: Mary Lou Bruhn, numerous nieces and nephews and her special friend, Susie Hensel. Maddy was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Maddy’s family would like to thank her Pine Brook Pointe family, too many to mention, for all the years of love, patience, care and friendship you gave to our mom and to our dad. Mom doesn’t have to look for Heinz any more!
We’d also like to thank Gentiva Hospice, Brittany, Kelly, Marian, Kevin for your kind care and compassion this past year.
A memorial service for Maddy and Heinz will take place at a future date as well as inurnment at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery (21731 Spring St. Union Grove, WI 53182).
