Leonard “Len” French Obituary

Leonard “Len” French, 76, of Waterford, WI, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on February 23, 1949, in Evanston, IL, Len was the son of the late Robert and Marjorie French. He was a devoted husband to Paula Beier, dad, grandpa, brother, and friend whose quiet strength, generous heart, and quick wit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

A proud U.S. Army veteran, Len served his country with honor and discipline—values he carried throughout his life. He was also a lifelong Boy Scout, achieving the distinguished rank of Eagle Scout, a testament to his dedication, leadership, and strong moral character.

Len earned his master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater and built a successful career as an accomplished electrical estimator, known for his precision, professionalism, and deep knowledge of his field. He retired from the industry in 2009.

Outside of work, Len found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved traveling with his wife, Paula, and was always up for a spontaneous adventure—or a good day at the casino playing slots. A lifelong enthusiast of Legos, model trains, and boat rides on Lake Tichigan, Len had an analytical curiosity and creative spirit that kept him young at heart.

Len’s legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply. He will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty, his warm presence, and the steady love he gave so generously.

Len is survived by his beloved wife, Paula Beier, and his loving daughters Laura Smetters (Dan) and Megan Young (Jason). He was the proud and deeply adored grandpa of Jacob and Claire Smetters and Dane Young. He is also survived by his brother, Kenneth French.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Emily French, his sister Cathy Popiel, and his parents, Robert and Marjorie French
